About Ashley Okland 

Ashley Okland was born on December 30, 1983, in Ames, Iowa, and grew up in Huxley with her sister and brother. She was active in sports, dance, 4-H, and piano during her youth. She graduated from Ballard High School in 2002 and went on to attend the University of Northern Iowa before transferring to Iowa State University, where she obtained a degree in exercise science in 2006.

After initially considering a career in physical therapy, Ashley entered the real estate industry in 2007. She worked for JDR Group and Century 21 before joining Iowa Realty in 2010. 

She lived in West Des Moines with her partner, Eric, and their dog, Indi. She had a passion for traveling, attending concerts, and playing golf. She was also an active member of the Young Professionals Connection, where she served as the sports chair and played a key role in organizing the 2010 Golden Circle Games.

Ashley participated in several charitable organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa and Young Variety. She also contributed to the Bill Reichardt Clothes Closet, which provided professional clothing to young job seekers.

In 2014, the Ashley Okland Star Playground was opened at Ewing Park in Des Moines to honor her memory. The playground is designed to accommodate children of all abilities and was developed to reflect Okland’s commitment to inclusivity and community service.
